Black Crag

Back to a regular, heading south to Black Crag (well, what some people call Black Crag, it's definitely on Black Fell). Another warm, very sunny day. Wind coming in from the south east, giving some very peculiar clouds over the hills. They could be seen being created at one edge, and disappearing at another, so despite all the wind the clouds themselves didn't actually move.

The landscape was covered in bright and dark spots that hardly moved, very frustrating if you're waiting for the sun to come out (or go behind a cloud).

There was a stiff breeze out in the open, but quite warm in the shelter. We saw practically nobody all morning until we finally got to Black Crag, then everyone appeared while we were trying to get our shots. Typical.

Black Crag

Still a little tired from climbing the Pikes, but the weather's about to turn so it's today or never. A long walk over to Black Crag from Chapel Stile.

The day started off very foggy, which eventually cleared leaving very bright skies. Almost nobody around until we reached the edge of Iron Keld.

On the way back down a family asked if we'd seen their dog. We hadn't so carried on but keeping an eye out. A long way down we saw a sheep fighting off a dog. We ran after and found the dog had cornered the sheep and was standing on its back. After driving it off we found it had been savaging the sheep, with blood all round its neck and flanks. While Gill chased the dog back to the family the sheep recovered and ran off up the path so it wasn't too badly injured.

Keep your dogs on a lead if you can't control them! We eventually found it again safe up the hill.

Tarn Hows and Black Crag

We drove round to Tarn Hows very early to see if we could get a nice sunrise. Of course not! Very dull and uninspiring but we persevered. After that we went for a walk to Black Crag and back again. We kept bumping into three belted galloway cows on the way round Tarn Hows. Not sure if they were supposed to be there, all their chums were up on the hills on the other side of a fence.
